EUROCUCINA COLOR INSPIRATION BY KRENGEL AND HOOD

Want to know what trends are coming out of Europe? Greenfield Cabinetry sales representative, Karla Krengel of Krengel and Hood LLC, based out of Chicago, Ill. shares her inspirations from a recent EuroCucina trip to Milan, Italy.

It has been said 10 of the 15 top design brands come from Italy.  So, it is no surprise 435,063 design types from 188 different countries converged on Milan, Italy recently to attend Salone del Mobile.  Salone del Mobile brings the design world together to discover what is new in styles, trends, design offerings – and it is where said design types go to be inspired.  Every other year during this “fair,” as the local Milanese call it, there is EuroCucina.  EuroCucina is the kitchen specific part of the fair.

“Overall, we didn’t see many bright colors as we walked from booth to booth in EuroCucina; earth tones dominated and even the colors we saw were reflective of Mother Nature’s softer side,” says Karla.

CHARCOAL

“We tend to use much lighter greys in our U.S. design palette and at the show we estimate 90% of grey matter was in the charcoal realm,” according to Karla.

GREEN

“From sinks to furniture to cabinetry, green ruled,” notes Karla.

PINK

“It isn’t the Millennial pink we are seeing as so popular in the U.S. and all over Pinterest; the popular pink tone of Salone del Mobile was a blush-red-pink; very soothing, subtly sexy and very inviting,” adds Karla.

TERRA COTTA

“When we first noticed this trend at the show, our initial reaction was to rebuke it, as Terra Cotta brings to mind the oh-so-lovely 1980s Southwest trend and floor tiles in Arizona,” notes Karla. “As we walked the booths of the fair we saw this color again and again and we finally came to accept it – and want for more, when we saw it elegantly paired with gold in a set of lighting fixtures.”
